Low Birth Weight and Prematurity in Ohio: A Multivariate Analysis
In 2014, Ohio's infant mortality rate was 6.8 deaths per 1,000 live births, higher than the national rate of 6.0. In this report, Community Solutions examines demographic and clinical correlations of low birth weight and prematurity among births in Ohio, which have been identified as leading risk factors for infant mortality. We found that a mother's age, race, education, smoking, and marital status are important factors in explaining differences in birth outcomes.
